John Deere A Carb Problem

I have a 1946 A that the carb has been changed to a DLTX 71. I took it apart, cleaned it up and changed the needle valve a while ago. I put it on the tractor and when I turned the gas on it came pouring out the carb like if I had forgot to put the needle in. I have taken this thing apart many times now. I replaced the needle valve again, no improvement. I replaced the float with the same results. I put in a rubber tipped needle and still no improvement. The bowl is a DLTX 13 and I have been debating changing that from one of my other tractors but I haven't tried that yet. I have cleaned up and rebuilt several DLTX carburetors before and never had a problem like this. It is probably something simple but I haven't got this one figured out. I would appreciate any help someone might have.

the needle and seat have to be a match or it will do that.

Or there is a hole in the float..

I would check the bowl vent .It has a double stack of brass vents, pop them out & clean the passage. Take your bowl & plug the bottom & hook a can with a fuel line to see if the float & needle & seat is working properly. If you dont have a test can you can hook it up to the fuel tank line & plug the big hole with a cork & turn on the fuel & hold it level to see what is going on.

I have checked both floats that I have tried and niether one leaks. The needle valves that I have changed have been in sets. I will check the vent and see if I can find a cork and see if the needle is functioning. I have taken the cover off of the needle valve body and watched the gas level by turnig the gas valve on and off. Everything seems to work when I do that.

Look VERY close at the portion in the bowl where the seat and gasket sits. Sometimes these get erroded away and can be reconditioned. Also many of the aftermarket seats need the hex near the gasket area champhered so as to let it properly tighten down into the recess of the bowl. It just might be leaking around the gasket and not the needle itself.

I checked the bowl vent and it was plugged. I had taken all of the other plugs out before and drilled out all of the other holes but not the vent. Thanks for the help! I would not have looked there without your help. I did put it back together and it worked. Any assistance as to where to get new vents? Thanks again.

AR10163 DEERE PART NUMBER OR ROBERTS CARBURETOR-712-262-5311 The purpose of the baffel is to keep the fuel from going up the vent when working the tractor over rough ground. You can leave them out if you just parade. I always replace them on carb rebuilds. Earl
