I have a 48 A and wondered if this is the right year to use for a pulling tractor as far as gearing. It seems fast in the 1st gear low range. And i want to rebuild the motor in the winter and wondered what the best approach is bore size and style of piston. It has a power block now. Not extreme just to get better? Thanks

add a little stroke to that power block and it should make a good mph class puller if it isn't a creeper gear A, which it sounds like it isn't.

48 is a great year because personally I think they have the best gearing set-up along with the best parts availability, especially when it comes to the power blocks.

If you"re not planning on stroking it, or at least not anytime soon, get in touch with Heinrichs repair, and he can set you up with a set of 6.125 overbore power block pistons. If you can find one, a heisler would be a worthy addition as well.

are those the fast geared 6spds?

Hey, here's the picture of one of the pistons we talked about the other day. Also have some that just have 0.875" meat above the top ring so you can cut your own dome. These are for the 6.125" B's with stock stroke, but fits in a PB A as well.
