I recently aquired may late dad's 51 A,in the process of changing the rad hoses I noticed the lower outlet water pipe is cast half closed,is there a special reason for this to restrict the water flow, just wondering,AL

Sure it isn't sediment that has setup like concrete?? Just a shot, or big chuck of the inner casting rusted off. good luck chris

I thought the late A"s did have a baffle type
restrictor in the lower pipe?? I haven"t
checked the book , something about steel
radiator & With or without a water pump.. Water
circualated too fast & wasn"t getting a chance
to cool off in the radiator..... So I think
it"s normal.... LOL

The baffle lower pipe is smaller then normal lower pipe and really does go with the water pump kit on the late A's. The baffle slows down the circulation for the water to have time to cool in the radiator.

Thanks to every one who posted about the lower water pipe on my A,I remember now dad did change the radiator and put a water pump on it so it must have been part of the change over, it was 106 today on my thermometer we are burning here in central Iowa,Thanks again,Al

I have a 52 AO that has the same half closure on the lower water pipe, and a water pump. Must have been standard.
