john deere D

have been looking for information on a 1948 john deere D that i am looking to purchase. I person who owns it tells me that it was ordered from deere with hand crank and i thought that they all were electric start at that time.

optional as was lighting , pto or steel wheels but hydraulics never were an option. The g in theory could have been equipped wth a hand start as well. Paul

ok so the fact that it doesn"t have lights and electric start would lead me to believe that it isn"t a rare tractor?

Most later styled D had elc start but not all of them some are hand start!Elc start has a option! Here is a pic of my 1940 D that only had lighting hand start but single 6 volt batt just for lighting! No matter if it is hand start or elc start any D is a sharp tractor! Go for it! Chris

It all depends on what you call restored?? Is it a complete nut and bolt restore from the case up?? Is it clean it up and put some paint on it? What has been done to it? Do you have any pics of the tractor?

i don't know what type of restore it was but it looks real nice. he is asking 10000 for the tractor i will see if i can get a picture of it.

It isn't a "rare" tractor electric start was the option not the other way around, 10000 is way to high for a "restored " D he may have that much in it but I have all kinds that have more spend on them than they will ever bring.

What should I be paying for it? It is strickly a wheatland tractor no lights, pto, hydraulics, and it is a hand crank.

Ok If you realy can find out what was done to it 10K could be a steel! I have ALOT MORE than that into mine! You will not restore ANY STYLED D that you buy for 10K IT CAN NOT BE DONE {THE CORRECT WAY} Also you will $1500 into a stuck one so know your down $8500 tires alone $1000 good paint to do it right $900 never mind a complete motor job new clutch go throw tranny body work sheet metal rims??? If you post some pictures it would help out a ton also any proff of whats been done to it??

just sold a real nice restored 48 "D" with new rubber, rebuilt engine and all tranny bearings replaced with PTO, perfect sheet metal/paint & electric start for $3800. ...with no 3pt or hyd. & to slow for parades...they are good for nothing but I did love to here that big engine idle at about 275rpm & see the front tires almost clear ground every time it hits....Kent

By looking at this picture paint looks very old tires look very old not worth 10K I would say around $3500---$5000 depending on the rest of the tractor!

Kind of looks like an older restore to me, and again restore or repaint?? I think JDChris is in the ballpark. Tractorhouse has them from 1500 up ; running to really pretty. Depends on how much you want to do yourself or just be a driver.

Should have said painted as a tractor not a mirror, Grew up on a lot of these old things and some looked as if dipped in paint tank and dripped dry. I have a hard time with a "restored" tractor that has a blinding shiny paint job. Looks fine and impresses the neighbors but never saw one from the factory like that.

he said the restoration was 10 years ago it was a ground up restoration the rear tires are 50% and the fronts are new and it does have a pto but that is it for options.

My D was restored 5 years ago and is keeped inside in a heated barn! If the restoration was a good one the tractor would look 100% better then what it does! Their is NO WAY THEY PUT NEW TIRES on it they are OLD! Just that alone tells me that the tractor did not get a full Restore more like a repaint and not a good one at that! Keep looking i would not spend 10K on that D! Do you get green mag? Post a ad on YT that your looking for a D!

I really dont know what mine would be worth today! I would not sell it for less than 13,500 in this economy! I have another 10 into it easy! $3000 for that one is a far price
