John Deere G

puller 1

New User
i was thinking about making a puller out of a 1938 JD G. is this tractor strong enough to put a 7.5in block in? are the castings any different than styled G's? i want to make it big if i do it but i want it to be strong enough.

here we go chop up a nother us G not many around to start with so knock it in the head.id trade my 47 GM for one anyday.

You have a very popular tractor that brings good money. If it was me and I wanted a G puller, I would sell the unstyled and buy a styled to build. You could sell the unstyled and buy a styled and then have money left over to build the puller that you want or just buy a G already set up as a puller. Just my 2 cents

cut em up, Last I checked this was a pulling forum, (we talk about how to modify tractors for pulling on here) not a "save the unstyled Gs, because I don't have one" forum. Let me see if I understand this correctly, it's ok FOR YOU to take your styled G and as you put it ".125 M&W's with a plug relife welded up on each piston decked block and the head is cut to the eyebrow . stock cam , electronic egnition , gas manifold" BUT it's not ok for him to take HIS unstyled and do something to it?

I would have to agree with Brent though. Unstyled G's are highly sought after. Unless you are wanting to pull an open gear, open MPH class, I would skip the US G. Sell it and buy a Styled one. They are a little lighter than a styled G, but a big motor like that will pull better with a little weight on it. You can always throw an unstyled hood on it with a little fab work and an Unstyled A front end.

The motors were unchanged in size, I don't know if the cases are different, but I doubt it.

then you ought to see the tractors my friends and I start with . We use carcasses that most people on here would dismiss as scrap and make something out of it.
