John Deere H

51.5" at the outside base of the rear tires. Total width including the bar axles is listed to be 79". The first number will depend on rear tire width. 7.50X32 is what the first ones came with.

Bill, thanks for the quick reply. I have a chance to get one but I have to be sure it will fit on my trailer (6x10). Can I assume that moving the wheels will not be too much trouble. It has been stored inside.

To make things a ton easier, make sure if you need to move the wheels inboard you do a couple things. I used a wire brush and lots of lubricant(Blaster,Kroil,or other penetrant) and I sprayed it on the splined axles. I used a rag to help rub it in as well as wire brushed the splines real good.. Then you will have to have a jack of some sorts to lift the rear axle up so the tire can be slid if needed. I would do one at a time and maybe if there is trouble,do 1 side till you can load it and work on it at your garage. You will then need to loosen the hub clamp with a 7/8 socket and preferably a breaker bar.Thread the 2 bolts into the holes that didn't have bolts in the first place and tighten then moving bac and forth to each bolt and it should pull the clamp part off. Again, lots of lube is your friend. I am not sure if you knew this, but in case you didn't,it will help. Don't mean to come off as a smart alleck. I just went through all this replacing the brake lining and such on my 41 H. What year is the H you are going after? Electric start?

This one fits on my trailer that is 6'3" wide with the hubs flush with the end of the axles.

Can anyone answer a simple question about the H's? Most of the pictures on the web of H's show no H decal on the grille section. Some do,but there seems to be a bit more of them without the H decal. Why would that be? Also, I just received a foot pedal and installed it tonight. I looked at the pictures in the I&T book but seem to be confused yet. It shows 2 springs hooked to the pedal. Is there a linkage I need ? Can anyone post a up close picture or email a picture to me at [email protected] ?

The H should not have the circle "H" on the grill. The "H" indentifier is the decal on the channel that the seat is mounted to and of course the serial number tag. I can't help you with a picture of the throttle springs. I know that mine are not correct.

There are two springs on the governor override foot control. Wet the axels with plenty of oil and remove the wheels. The hubs will move a lot easier, but it still may be a chore.

The worst case for you would be if the wheels are dished out and slid all the way out. That would make the tread 80". Add to that the tire width and you'd have a tractor about 88" wide.

There is supposed to be a fairly stout spring maybe 7/16" or 1/2" OD that pulls the pedal up. It hooks to the pedal and a sheet metal tab on the back of the plate behind the belt pulley. That only returns the pedal.

The second spring is not as strong though it is larger in diameter, maybe 7/8" and wound with comparatively fine wire. That spring goes from the top hole on the pedal's arm forward to the sheet metal arm bolted to the governor case. When you step on the pedal this spring pulls the sheet metal arm back against the rod like protrusion on the bottom of the governor arm and speeds the engine up for road speed which is still slow! This upper spring allows governor action to still take place with the pedal nailed to the fast position.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to Scott Utz, I have pictures and think I now know whats going on. I need to get the 2 springs and I should be all set on the foot pedal setup..What a very helpful site. I hope I can contribute out to help others in need.
