John Deere model 850

Local Ohio fellow had one advertised 2 wd without mower for last I remember $ 4,000 came down from $5,000 still don't know if it sold ?

But the good thing is you hardly need anything.
We have a JD 750 4x4 and it is one of the best things we have ever owned !
Too bad Deere didn't have Yanmar build a pickup truck for them to sell.

I worked for a neighbor who had a 1050. It was a nice tractor to operate and the diesel engine was very fuel efficient, however I thought the two stage clutch left a bit to be desired in terms of long term durability, as there were some issues with that which could be attributed to some of the operators lacked understanding and familiarity with that type of clutch.

Have an 89 JD 850 that gets used about every day on the ranch, mostly on a 72 in finish mower, roto tiller, 12ft chain harrow, 16 ft pipe trailer, box blade and angle blade, 55 gallon sprayer, etc. Don"t know if parts are expensive as I"ve never bought anything other than one fuse, oil, filters, refresh coolant, and one battery. Sips the diesel and starts every time. It has the two stage clutch which works great. Don"t use for any heavy work as it is a utility tractor not a field tractor. I have used it on a 2 bottom plow for garden work. Yanmar makes a great tractor. I have tractors up to 200 hp for the heavy stuff but none gets more seat time than the little 850. Wish it had hydraulic SCV"s and then it would get to pull the hay rakes but JD doesn"t sell the conversion kits anymore. Price should be in the 4-5k range is tires are good and tractor is in good shape. 4 wheel drive 850s tend to be beat up and abused so I would be careful on them, as lot of the them were used with loaders in the landscaping industry. I would not buy a 4wd one unless it was cherry. jmho
