john deere model A 1950

i wanted to know if anyone knew what the correct size rear tire is for my tractor? i have 12.4 x 38 now and need to replace with new ones.

Two Cylinder, July-Aug. 1998, page 17 says most of the production run of the late styled A got 11-38 tires but towards the end many tractors were equipped with 12-38s. I think the 12-38 has been mostly replaced by the 13.6x38 now. I have seen old pictures of the A with 11-38s and it looks funny. I think you would be happy with the 13.6x38s.

i prefer 14.9 on an a deere was always too small of tires the be came with 11's the 70 came with either 12;s or 13's were both options according to the jd a online parts book rear rim otions were 9 10 or 11 i would guess the tire went like 11.2 12.4 and 13.6 so it would depend on which rims you have just measure between the beads

Nah, the perfect tire(s) are the mismatched pair on my '60', 1 - 11x38 and 1 - 12.4x38 (5/8" diff. in height), I think the 11 is an original (in good shape) and the 12.4 (weather checked) is a replacement. I bought the tractor in '71, worked the heck out of it farmin' until '76, restored it over the last few years and the tires are still good - go figger.

Anything larger than 13.6 looks ridiculous on an A. Huge tires make the tractor look entirely out of proportion like a puller mutilation.
