john deere mower won't run

My john deere 435 mower starts fine, but after about 5 minutes it starts cutting out bad. If you keep running it like this, after about 20 minutes, it will take off and run fine for the rest of the 2 hours it takes to mow my yard. Any suggestions?

You have evidently come across a fine example of an engine that really doesn't want to do any work! shame on you for interrupting its slumber! It probably says:"Well, I'll run fer a while, but i ain't a gonna run very long--I'm tired already!"

Most likely you had water in your gas. It took 5 min. for the first drop to get to the carb and it took another 15 mins. to run all the rest through.

I have seen a lot of water in gas this summer. I think part of it comes from the alcohol content in the gas.

sounds like u have a bad TDC module
When they go bad they can do some crazy stuff
There not expencive and easy to replace
Yours may be square but new ones are round an u zip tie them to the harness
Follow the single red wire from starter solenoid back to a box with short yellow an orange wires an long black wire
This is the TDC Module
Good Luck Gary

Sounds like the TDC module is what we need to try first. Someone else has also mentioned this to us. Thanks for describing where to find it.

Thanks for all the info
Lynn
