John Deere R - Kill Switch??

Guys, you may have read other post regarding my JD R. We parked this tractor in the barn a few years ago, got it out yesterday and the engine won't start, its not getting fuel. We changed the filters and bled them as we should have and she still won't start. When we parked it, the tractor would purr like a screaming poppin johnny but now nothing. Where is the kill switch? I'm thinking the kill switch is stuck or something???? Any help would be appreciated, I have to think its something minor.

Did you try bleeding the fuel lines at the injectors? On a couple occassions I've run mine out of fuel and refused to start until I got most of the air out of those lines. As for a kill switch, the only way to shut the fuel off is to press the stop in on the throttle and close the racks.

Thanks for the reply, where are the injectors located? As far as the kill switch, is that the really small button on the right side of the throttle? Thanks for your help!

The injectors are on the front of the head, under the valve cover. An yes the throttle stop(kill switch) is the small button on the right side of throttle. But all it does it keep you from accidentally pulling the throttle lever completely back and shutting the fuel off, when you don't want to.

The lift pump on the side of the tractor is working (by the filters), but we can't seem to get flow through the injector pump on top. We also check all the fuel lines for blockage all the way to the injectors, none found. Any ideas?? Thank-you!

Forgot to mention, the tractor fires up beautifully on starting fluid but will not stay running.

Are you talking about the gas starting engine or the diesel engine? Your reference to "screaming" inferes starting engine since the diesel doesn't scream. I hope your not useing ether in the diesel but rather in the starting engine.

You might go ahead and toss that starting fluid. I dont think you'll be needing it anymore.

Since your tractor has been sitting for two years now you have the possiblity of microbial organisms in your fuel system. It would be a good preliminary practice to drain and flush the tank as well as changing the fuel filters. While you are at the JD dealership you should go ahead and invest in at least an operators manual for your tractor. I think you will find that if you change filters and bleed accordingly you should be able to fully advance the fuel lever an crank the engine over a bit to see it come alive. It is a good practice to pull the speed control back to the the idle position as soon as the diesel is running under its own power.

A good engine oil change would certainly be in the plans as soon as you get it to fire if not before. Might as well get that oil filter while you are there at the dealership. I dont think you should have to pull the valve cover to bleed the injectors if you have a good running pony to turn it over for a couple minutes. If the pony does not run then the diesel sould fire after being pulled a couple hundred feet.

No, we didn't run the tractor constantly on starting fluid, just fired it up a few times. The injectors are not getting diesel, we barely loosened the lines at the injectors and turned the engine over with the pony for about a minute, not a drop of diesel.

Then what does this mean "THE DIESEL ENGINE WONT RUN WITHOUT CONSTANT STARTING FLUID"
Boy I can't wait to purchase a diesel which has ran on 100% ether.
