John Deere running gear

How can I tell what model JD running gear I have if the model plate is missing? The hubs are 6 lug if that helps.

If the axles are in line with the spindles and separate bolsters bolted on, it is a 953 or 963. The 963 had loops welded to the top side of the axles under the bolsters.

Ok, I just found out the running gear is a JD 1065. My next question is what is the weight capacity for this unit? I want to put a 1500 gal water tank on it which puts me at 1200lbs. Will it handle it?

you mean 12,000lbs. , I wouldn't put more than 500# on any jd gear, they are a light built pos and could have learned alot from Westendorf ect.

A JD 1065 is a eight ton running. If yours has a round tongue it is a straight 1065. If it has a square tongue it is a 1065A. John Deere made one of the best trailing wagon gears ever built.

As for dboll comments below. I have owned Westendorf wagons. They will handle a load ok but if you pull them at more than a walk they will pass you on both road ditches.

That said. I have twenty three JD running gears from light 943s to heavy 1275s. I even have two of the last 720s wagon gears. JD seems to only want to make combines and tractors any more. The stuff marketed under frontier is just everyone elses stuff. The three point blades are Woods. The manure spreaders are H&S. The trouble with it is that JD buys at retail and paints it green and marks it up. You can always buy it cheaper at the original manufacture dealer.
