hey guys here is my problem, i bought what was supposed to be the seal for the cast plate that goes over the end of the pto on my 1950 john deere b. the original seal has rubber and felt in it. the new seal i got has just rubber and is half the size. should i just get another seal like the new one and forget about the felt? what should i do? any help will be very much apreciated. thanks again, jonathan s in northeast pa

I think the felt serves as a wiper or dust shield. If repalcement is not complicated,I would use the new seal if it is correct size.

I agree with Mike. It also puts the seal lip on a different part on the shaft as the originals which usually have worn a small groove on the shaft. By using two together you have double sealing and it puts you on new smooth shaft surfaces. Did this on my '50 "B" and worked great.
