John Deere790

Guys, I need some help. I have a chance to buy a 2007 JD 790. I know it has the JD name, and it is made by someone else for JD, but I am getting what I consider a good deal on it. It is the standard shift. It comes with a nice bush hog too. Does anyone have a 790, and if so, what do you like or dislike about it.

i have a 2003 4 wd, saved me after hurricane ivan, it was really abused. have added front end loader sence then. can't praise this tractor enough. you must realize it is a 27 hp and respect it for its intened use.

It's made by Yanmar in Japan. Over the many years that Deere has been sourcing small tractors from Yanmar, the tractors have proven to be very, very reliable. As this is a gear-type transmission tractor. You might want to consider a different hydrostatic transmission model if you're going to do much finish mowing with a belly mower or use a front end loader much - in which case you'll sure want a front wheel assist model too.

I have a 2006 model with the JD 300 loader MFWD. This is a great little tractor. It starts easily even in the coldest of weather. It operates all of my impliments with ease. 62" rototiller, post hole digger 5ft bush hog mower. 2 row planter and cultivator. I moved 4 tandem loads of sand with it in one day and it only used 4 gallons of fuel. I can haul it around on a 16ft tadem axle trailer. The only fault I can find is it is a little light. I have the rear wheel weights and put a 5ft grader blade on the back before putting much weight in the loader. It can tip the back wheels up off the ground with a full loader bucket.

I have a 790 an 03 and a 68 4020. I call the 790 my mini 4020. It is a great machine. I have a 419 loader on it. No matter what you do with it you will want a 4x4 and r4 tires. Any implement you put on the front or the back makes it a tad light in the opposite end. The 4x4 is key. Even using a belly mower and getting into a tight spot nose down on a hill it is nice to drop it into 4x4 to get out. Otherwise the power to weight on this machine is superb and very reliable and efficient. Plus fits in a 7 foot garage door. I have standard shift and using a loader, I don't find as a handicap. You do have to be stopped dead to shift.
