started shelling corn today just bought machine first time for using for corn did and excellent in soybeans but corn with 443 head way to much broken cob pieces and stalk piecesin grain tank have to cut low to pick up downed corn would appreciate some advice thanks

you need to set your concave correctly and adjust the sieves properly so cobs dont get in the grain bin also set your cylinder speed correctly i believe for corn it should be 350 to 500 rpm (dont quote me) better look in the book a 4400 will do a great job of cleaning the grain if set properly

The book says that for corn the cylinder speed should be between 400 to 700. This depends on how dry the corn is that you're combining (the dryer the slower). I just bought a 4400 also and the speed was set at 600 rpm. This created quite a bit of cracked corn so I slowed it down to around 525. The corn was testing around 21%. As for the concave I've got mine set at around 16. The book says from 14-18. There are almost no cobs in the tank at all and hardly a kernel on the ground. Hope this helps and by all means I'm no expert at this yet!!! It seems to be working for me at these settings.

Willard, which way are the cobs broken? If they are split lengthwise you have your concave too tight. If split in small pieces you are running to high of a cylinder speed. Mike

Your sieve is the last line of defense regarding what goes into the tank. It is open too far, letting cob pieces and trash get through. Might be able to use more air as well, as long as you don't blow the kernels out.
