I'm looking at buying a JD 5525 are these a good model or a dud. This is a new tractor I'm told it is now a run out model this tractor has the 24/24 trans EH hitch control 4wd and 40klm top road speed it is built in the USA at the augusta plant, can some one help regards Cliff.

They sell lots of them. The main complaint is they are light, like a Kubota. Advertising says 100 hp but not that at the pto, and there is even less when the A/C is running. JD is just playing the numbers game like the others.

If your are mowing or baling theres no need to haul around the extra weight of a 6000 series so it will save you fuel. There is also an Epto speed to save fuel raking or tedding etc.

The cab is larger than many and has a jumpseat option which is really handy. I don't like the loader joystick but thats just me.

I've heard there is not lift pump in the underslung tank so if you run it dry it is a royal pain to prime it. Solution, don't run it dry.

The other complaint I've heard it someone breaking the park pin in the tranny and had to split the tractor under warantee to get it out. I'd have the pin left out if it was mine! If that happened outside of warrantee its 2500$ at least if it doesn't hit anything on the way down through the gears.

I've had one for 3 years and its been trouble free. Just as Ken points out it is an excellent hay tractor, plus it's very nimble even with the front axle engaged in manual mode.

The joystick is fully mechanical so it is somewhat quirky but quite functional.

Climate control is superb.

At 7600 lbs. unballasted for the MFWD cab model it falls somewhere between a Kubota and the 6000 series Deeres.

They use the Deere 4.5 liter engine design that's in the 4 cylinder 6000 series.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, or for that matter buy another one.

Ken and the Guest did a good job summing up the 5525. They are good tractors. I really like the size of the cab and the layout of the controls. Climate control works great no matter how hot or how cold it gets (well, at least down to 10 F). The joystick operation could be better, but after working with if for awhile I don't even think about it anymore.
