jubilee pto

I was brush hogging in some pretty thick stuff. In reverse I was using my deck as a ram to push a fallen tree out of the path. At or around that time my pto stopped. Although the shift lever never changed, the pto stopped spinning. I don't think me using the deck as a ram did it but that's what I was doing when I realized no more brush hogging today and probably for some time!!

Can you rotate the pto by hand with the engine off and bush hog connected? What about with the bush hog disconnected? Does the tractor pto shaft slide forward and backword with the bush hog disconnected? With the engine off, tractor in gear, and pto engaged, you should not be able to rotate tractor pto shaft by hand. With engine off, tractor in gear, and pto disengaged, you should be able to rotate tractor pto shaft by hand. Does the bush hog pto shaft rotate freely when disconnected from tractor?

What about with the bush hog disconnected? Does the tractor pto shaft slide forward and backword with the bush hog disconnected? I am working on this
With the engine off, tractor in gear, and pto engaged, you should not be able to rotate tractor pto shaft by hand. I CAN spin it by hand in this config.

Does the bush hog pto shaft rotate freely when disconnected from tractor?

Right now I can freely spin the BH shaft (still connected to pto) and the PTO is spinning as well. Looks like I have a small leak under the Diff now too.

What about with the bush hog disconnected? Does the tractor pto shaft slide forward and backword with the bush hog disconnected? IF I understand you correctly i can move the shift lever back and forth with no problem.

Ford Tractor NAA Service Shop Manual, Form no. ED-5745-7
Thinking I need to look into page 29 and 30 Service Job No 7 and 8. Servicing the PTO Shifter Assembly and / or #8 The PTO Shaft Asembly

Yes, you are at the point of getting the bush hog off the tractor and digging into the tractor to find out whats going on. You should be able to pull the side cover with the pto engaging lever without having to drain any oil and might even be able to see enough to find the problem. You will have to drain some oil if you have to remove pto shaft.

(quoted from post at 15:56:35 08/18/19) at this point I am just glad I am not seeing the word "split" :) thank you sir.
eed to get that ORC off of there in order to really know what PTO "shaft" is doing.

I got a punch to push the old roller pin out but when I rotate the clutch coupler the "inner sleeve" rotates synchronously with the outer hole never exposing the pin hole. I have to somehow stop that inner sleeve from rotating.

I couldn't line up the roller pin to the grease fitting hole no matter what I tried so I yanked off the coupler with my truck. I really didn't want to do that knowing I could be digging a big hole of unnecessary problems. so the result is that when I was monkeying around with the fallen pine or somewheres about that time, I broke the PTO shaft. I was finally able to get it out which was surprisingly easy! I did clamp down on the shaft and rotate the coupler and punched the roller pin out.

Not sure if my problem is similar. I was tilling a couple acres. Everything hooked up easy. Started tractor went to the acreage put in clutch engaged PTO no issues. Leaving field, stop tractor put in clutch, PTO Lever will not move forward. At that point turned off tractor. Pulled tiller PTO shaft off tractor, for safety. Pulled into barn. Lever stuck in engaged position. Started the tractor several times put in reverse then forward a couple time hope that would release something, but lever still stuck in engaged position.

Best bet for answers is to start your own thread instead of adding on to a 5 yo thread that was never resolved.
One thing most never do is check the sliding shaft length before using a PTO driven implement. It's not a universal thing and too long and it will cause problems. OP probably rammed the brush cutter back and destroyed his shaft and OR coupler.
