jump starter

looking to buy one of those portable jump start boxes. any features to look for? what to avoid? just plan on using for personal uses nothing big like a huge desial.

Buy a JNC 660. My son and I both have them and they work. We had some cheaper ones before and they were not very good not did they last very long.

Just remember, they are for a jumpstart. They are not ment to crank something over if you get my drift.

That is what I bought. I've not needed to use it yet, but it is the one recommended by my NAPA guy. It is the same jump pack that is used by several auto repair places.

I second the vote for a JNC660. It contains a lead-acid battery and is the same jump starter carried by a lot of tow truck operators. You can crank on it until you run it dead if you wish. I've started vehicles and tractors with mine that didn't even have a battery connected, I used the JNC660 as the battery.

Clore Automotive makes the JNC660. They also makes a few smaller units and a few larger units depending on your application.

I've found if it has an aircompressor on it, it's junk.

I bought a 300 watt inverter that plugs into my JNC 660. It provides enough to power up my electric powerd recliner when the power goes out, and also power up a table lamp.
