Just got engaged

Just wanted to share the news with my extended family on here. A friend of a friend gave her my number and we talked for nearly a week before meeting last Friday night. We hit it off instantly and both of us felt like we"d known each other all our lives. We did a lot of talking...and a little loving... over the next several days and both of us knew, without a doubt, that it was meant to be. I"m hitting 40 first of the year and she"s 36 and has a beautiful, soon to be 5 year old little girl. Veronica is a beauty no doubt but her little girl is a blue eyed, blond haired, heart breaker. Anyway I bought a ring Wednesday and proposed on Wednesday night as we were heading out to dinner. There was no doubt in my mind or her"s about us being together for the rest of our lives so naturally she said YES. So far the responses we"ve gotten to our engagement have all been all positive, with the main one being, for the both of us, "It"s about time you were finally happy, you deserve it"....even from her Father...although he did give me the YOU BETTER TREAT HER RIGHT speach with the emphasis being on the little girl and not her mom.... Crazy after only 5 days, maybe, but I know in my heart it"s right and right now I"ve been smiling for 7 days straight and smiling even bigger since Wed night. I"m the happiest man in the world.

You've known her for five days and your engaged? That's very scary. Now, slow down a little and get to know her. No matter how you go at it, I'll just say, congradulations and, I wish the very best for you, you future wife and future daughter.

I am with Ken here.
You have only known her 2 weeks?

BE CAREFUL....Even though you are 40 and she is 36, could be bad if you dont know her long enough. Is she divorced? (a 5 year old little girl, wedlock, prior boyfriend? is the girl adopted by her?)
When my wife and I went through marriage class in 1994 at the church we got married at the assistant pastor said that you should know the other person for several months before engagement and at least 6 months (bare minimum) before marriage.
But........if you know she is the one.
Ask her tons of questions like:
1. her favorite color, food, cars, trucks (and of course tractors) how did she do in school, what is her career? Is she pro-life, Pro-gun, does she belong to the elephant party or the Donkey party. Is she a womens lib type that hate men? (those types are evil)
2. Be absolutely sure that she is not going to turn into a freeloader after the wedding and mooch off of you and *itch that you work too much.
3. Did you meet her parents? did she meet your parents?
4. Does she go to church? (what demomonation?)
5. talk to an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband, this may be real tough. (dont bring it up unless it enters a conversation)
Good Luck......I wish you the best.
Be careful.

Where you work.... in your medical plan... do they cover psychiatric care???

Marriage is definitely not a solution to the turning 40 midlife crisis

Ok,fine give her the ring, but don't get in no hurry to say "I Do".. I know of a couple that were married two days after they met..Its been 43 years later and they are happy as can be and have no regrets that they got married, but even they say its best if you wait a little while.
Also Dr.Phil says you shouldn't marry someone untill you see them with the flu...That may sound funny, but its not bad advice!!

Don't pay attention to the Naysayers let your heart lead you into the right direction.
I new my wife for 6.5 years before she proposed to me. Funny been married twice and have yet to propose.
I guess I'm pretty well known a procrastinator.

I completely agree with Ken!I'm not saying to break up,don't break the engagement, that will force a break up too.The most important advice I can offer you is a VERY long engagement.I'm sure that she is just as wonderful as you say she is,but you have to spend atleast a year or two together before you should tie the knot. You didn't give her a chance to let her get to know you either. She still can break your heart too buddy. It would be alot less painfull if it happened before you got married.I know that what I say to you will bear no weight on what you both do,but ask anyone,a marriage is a contract that can be broken, and if it breaks,it comes with a HEFTY price tag,and if that happens,GUESS WHO GETS THE BILL BUDDY.Best of luck,pd.

They say --- you have a 60/40 per-cent chance of staying married or being divorced ----
that is --- 60% get Divorced -- 40% don't

I'm one on the Don't side --- been married for over 47 years to the same Wonderful Woman and going strong ....
Good Luck !

I was raised by a couple who were married 34 years ago, after dating 3 weeks.Guess what,Mom is still by his side tonight in the hospital after Dad's heart surgery. They are still very happy.I myself was married 8 years ago.I knew as soon as I met her,and so did she.We talked the whole entire night of our first date as if she were some long lost friend that I hadnt seen in a long damn time,a perfect fit.We did wait about a year to tie the knot, but I would have done it sooner if possible

I remember the whirlwind romance myself. I had never met such a beautiful and kind person in my life and couldn't wait to marry her. We both just knew we were meant to be together.

Now I can't wait for the rag to die or move away.

You might have better luck.

You did WHAT! Like others hav said don't rush into the I do too quick. Her friends are telling her some of the same things you are seeing on these posts. They may be telling her, that guy is interested in those old noisy dusty tractors, he probaboy has a old pickup and lets his dog ride with him too. Just kidding congratulations. Stan

Congratulations, Wayne !!! One day last week, I was thinking that it had been a while since I had seen you post here, I was going to send an Email soon to make sure you were OK..

Sounds like you met Ms. Right.. I wish you, and your future wife & daughter the best of health and happiness... Best wishes..

Don't listen to those that say don't jump.

You're plenty old enough to know what you want, and if you never jump how will you know whats at the bottom? Could be feathers or it could be cactus. Only 1 way to experience life- Live it!!

Worked with a guy that had a similar situation to yours. They split after a couple months she cleaned out his bank accounts and it stil cost him a fortune to get rid of her.Don't mistake being in Rut for Love.

Statistics claim that married men live longer. Actually it just seems that way.
Right now you are thinking 90% emotion and 10% logic. May want to wait a while. If you have been getting fresh with her it gets worse as the 10% logic is now from the little head instead of the big head.
The child's father maybe pleased to no longer be paying child support.

A few items of advise.
