Kids these days...

Kids these days can be a puzzle. Then, every once-in-a-while... there's one like this that restores your faith.

I am a volunteer at a "type club", an association of fellow-enthusiasts (sorta like this one) except instead of tractors... it's late 40s/early 50s Cessna airplanes. This week I became aware of a young man who seems bent upon owning his own.

This is worth watching if you need a restoration of faith in kids who would rather not wear baggy pants, talk smack and "rap"... kids who aren't afraid to respect their elders, bust their knuckles, and get some grease under their fingernails::

Great story..., he'll end up owning an aircraft company or maybe be the first person on Mars! More power to him. Once the country was filled with young men and women like that..., hope we've not lost that nor ever will.

That was great, there is a young man that is on the Chevy truck forum I also use and so far he has a Wallis in the works and a 49 chevy 3100 he is doing a complete rebuild on. It is really good to see these young people doing great thing.
Thanks for posting that.

That's a breath of fresh air. I became involved in a Scout Aviation Venturing Crew last fall. We have a small, but growing group of really good young people. I'm going to post that video on Facebook for them.

i have 2 boys 17&13 one has a 76 chevy tk almost done& the younger one has a 69 beetle he is restoring they both have been under cars sinse they could crawl.they make me proud!

Dont let a few bad apples taint your view - there are a LOT of good kids out there - I see a lot of good kids at the Taikwando classes i go to with my son, at swim meets with my daughter, and at both of their schools in events and sports etc. Young dedicated people still signing up for the military, and more. The future for them may not be as easy as we think either - the competition to get into a good college is harder than ever before and the cost associated with a good education beyond many budgets. Challenges in the ever dwindling work force from well educated and driven young people from overseas, all kinds of distractions from an onslaught of marketing and media and a world today which seems to be crumbling as we watch. I dont envy them as I personally feel they have a tough road ahead of them.

Here is a good verse from Khalil Gibran:

On Children
Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.
