Lil Red and I just finished spraying fire ant mounds on about 4 acres of pasture. I'll have to reload to get the last 2-3 acres. This North Star 55 gallon spray rig has a 12v pump, a center nozzle for 14 foot broadcast spray, and a handheld spray gun with about a 15 foot hose. I turn on the pump, ease around in first gear, and use the handheld gun to spray the ant mounds while sitting in the tractor seat. Sure beats lugging around pump sprayers or backpack sprayers. I'm using a Bifenthrin 7.9 percent solution, mixed 1 ounce to 1 gallon of water. This is the first time I've used it on a large scale; we'll see how long it lasts. It certainly does kill the little devils. There must be hundreds of mounds on my 6-7 acres. They're worse than ever right now due to recent rains and warm temperatures this fall here in Georgia. The mound pictured is a small one, only about 14 inches wide and about 8 inches high. I have had some about 2 and a half feet wide and a foot and a half high. One about like that broke the fiber cam gear on my 48 8N when I hit it with my 5 foot rotary cutter about 3 years ago.
