King Kutter Mower

I have a five foot King Kutter and it has vibrated a little bit and at times it will vibrate more than others every since i bought it. It is about six years old i have used it very little since then. Everything seems to be real tight. The blades are in excelent shape very little wear. Has someone had this problem before.
I can completely stop the blades from turning and restart it it's not quiet as bad.Could it be in the tractor some way that is all i run on the pto. Thanks for any and all help.

They do rattle and shake a bit normally.
But if it is a lot I suppose things should be checked.
One thing you could do is remove the blades and weigh them on like a postal scale. I'm just guessing here but would say they should be within a quarter pound of each other in weight.
Another thing is you might have a bent stump jumper - that big round plate that the blades are attached to. Maybe take a straight edge like a piece of angle iron and measure from that to the stump jumper. Slowly rotate the plate by hand and check it in 6 or so points to insure the plate is true. Again I'm just guessing here but would want it to be within 1/8" all the way around. Also check the bearings in the gearbox and listen/feel if they grind or are gritty. Ujoint could be bad too so check them closely.

Edit: I assume you have checked the oil level in the gear box. I think they come from the factory with No Oil.

tight is good, except for the blades.. they have to swing 100% freely on the shouldered bolts. if not and they are off kilter.. it will be a pto powered back massager

Ditto what Soundguy says. We bought a used low-hour 6' KK hog and the first time that I hooked it up, I thought it was going to take the 3-pt arms off, it was vibrating so much. Tracked it down to blade bolts that were too tight. Loosened 'em up (had to grind the socket hole in the deck a bit larger) and haven't had any more problems. HTH.

My 6 ft KK, when used with the independent pto on our 4610 Ford always stops rotation with the bladed "folded" under the stump jumper. This is because of the pto brake. When it starts up there is a lurch as the blades "unfold". If the blades have been damaged or are unevenly worn, they can be slightly out of balance and cause some vibration. The more out of balance, the higher the vibration amplitude. The stump jumper can also be damaged and running "out of plane".

sounds like they weren't using the correct shouldered bolts that only go intill the shoulder contacts and then allows the blade to spin. they musta slipped in some regualr gr8 or 10 big bolts and lock nutted them or soemthing..

I have a 6ft K/K and have had the same problem from time to time.Grass or weeds will get between the blade holes and shoulder bolt along with rust and cause the blades to be tight.I usually can spray WD40 on them and work them back and forth until they will spin all the way around freely and this stops it from vibrating.
