got a cub cadet with a single cylinder twin cam engine in it
It died the other day and checked it out an a push rod came off
futher inspection shows the engine block cracked in that area as well
Any one ever see this problem before ???
This is a first for me never had a twin cam engine before
THX in advance Gary

Never seen one do that. A lot of the ealiest ones of that motor had tons of camshaft problems though. Gear twisting on cam, stipping teeth, decompression lever breaking off, etc. Bent valves was also fairly common. Seemed like they got problems worked out though. They really are not that hard to work on. Pop the flywheel and pull the top off and everything is right there. obviously something has come apart in there though to bust the crankcase. Good luck Tim

strange thing about it
i reinstalled the push rod an tightened rocker and it started right up
after ran a bit i noticed the oil leak thens when i found block cranked
didnt seem nosiey when it run dont figure huh
thx for ur responce gary

Maybe screwed the cam lever up somehow and pushed it through the block. There is a lever that rides on the cam and the pushrod sits in that. Cant imagine you would have been able to get the valve adjusted if that the case though.

Kohler has had a lot of problems with that engine. I shortblocked 5 of them last year for cracking the case on the starter side around the exhaust cam near the cylinder. Kohler was thinking that the top cover was not properly torqued at the factory.

Had another lose the cam follower on intake side in the crankcase-the bolt worked loose.

This year have seen 3 that the counterweight bearings failed and or broke the counterweight.

My opinion is these engines are very sensitive to being operated with oil level below add mark.
