kohler 10 amp alternator

has any converted a k series 10 amp charging system to a 15amp? if so what would need to be changed. also would a bad alternator have something to do with not getting any spark.? it is a solid state ignition.

You probably have a defective ignition module. You can check the ac voltage from the alternator at the regulator should have around 30 vac, but you would need to get the engine running. You need to check the magnets in the flywheel for magnetism & rust as these create the fire from the ignition module. I don't think battery voltage is used on the ignition here. It would be if you had the conventional coil & points.

i think the alt and flywheel are different for solid state that points ignition. ebay usually allways has these parts listed. id check a/c output of your alt to see if its ok first. the modules and coils do go bad on these systems. i try tp replace coil and module if i can, keeps me out of a comeback.lucas

No, a bad alternator would not cause a no fire situation, they are 2 differant systems.

then why is there a wire coming from the stator going to the trigger module and two other wires going to the regulator. there is 3 wires from the stator.?

As JT & others have stated there are 2 different ss ign systems, one has a trigger module that is powered by a seperate winding on the alt stator,if stator bad you won't get AC voltage to trigger module.
