kohler kv161

Hello, Can anyone help me find a parts manual for this engine. The model is KV161, ser #594217 spec #3436C. This is a very rare engine and has the same visible markings as a 7hp K161 that was used on a JD tractor. I do not know if the KV161 block and the K161 block [bare block] are the same. I do not want to disassemble my KV161 to find this out so a parts manual or any information would be a help. Thanks Mel

I had a big Kohler K series parts manual that I got on E-bay. It covered anything from the K-91 up to K341 or K361. It was old and some part numbers are superseeded but with an PN the dealer was able cross to new. This was the same book dealers used in the late 70's early 80's when I did small engines for a golf course. I used it to figure out what else would fit the cub cadet engine

Doing a little searching on Google it seems they did not make to many KV161 engines. They also made a KV181 which some Wheel Hoarse tractors used. The KV161 was only made for a year because of some oil problems it had. Looking in the parts book I tried looking up a K161 and I could not find the spec. #. You may have to call Kohler to find a manual. Kohler has manuals on there website but not for a KV161.

My Kohler parts book does not show any "V" engines.So I looked in my repair manual and it has a KV181.As near as I can tell the k181 and kv181 are the same blocks.The "V" has a inner sump cover before the oil pan.I know I didn't answer your question about the KV161 but I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info but, on the KV161 - on the PTO side of the block, it has a bigger sump than the KV181. That's the reason I want a parts book, to determine the difference. Thanks again. Mel
