Korves Engine Kits

Hey Guys, Finally to the point of going back together with the 88. Time to find a engine kit. I have been thinking of getting one from Korves, just wondering if anyone has got one from them and if they are goood quality kits? I plan on going with some 3 3/4 flat tops, but am gonna do some tinkering for a little more HP. Thanks!

Put 3 3/4 in my 77 last spring. Good kit everything was there that they said would be. If I were you I would definitely go with 3 7/8 step up pistons. Then you would be at 283 ci.

Well, from what i have been told in order to take FULL advantage of the 3 7/8 kit you need to get a bigger carb and intake and maybe bigger valves and i would rather not go to that extent for what i am doing with this tractor. I think the 3 3/4 will work good with the standard head...etc. What are your thoughts on this?

the 37/8" kit will work good with the stock valves, carb and intake. then if you want more power for work or pulling you can do the head and intake work. the big kit only costs about $50.00 more. i think the big kit with the small valves and carb will give you great low end power. just my thoughts, chuck

I am going to be the devil here. I would not put the 3.750 in a 77 nor would I put a 3-7/8 in an 88. What kind of horse power are you looking for in the 88? For both the 77 and the 88 I would do some serious head work and that includes the larger valves for sure. Also when you go to those sizes you use a different that the regular head gasket. In fact I was reading in Oliver Heritage that Larry does not like the 3.750 kits for a 77 engine, made me feel good.

j, when i put the 33/4 kit in my 77,34+years ago i had to go to the hd clutch and pressure plate to hold it with no other mods to the engine. korves stocks the head gaskets. that 33/4 kit lasted 29 years both pulling and working, 25 of those years with it stroked a 1/4",head intake, cam and running 3000 rpm for pulling. so in my opinion it will run good with no other mods. and great if do head and intake work etc. why would you not use these kits? chuck

Things are different than when I worked for a dealer years ago. At that time there were many Oliver 77 & 88 tractors with those kits in them, Those tractors had more valve problems, they take an odd ball headgasket and yes we even had a couple that broke crankshafts. One of the best Oliver gas engines back in the day was the Super 88. Look at all the improvements made in that engine compared to the Fleetline 88 engine. Look at the differences in the 155 cubic inch 4 cylinder engines compared to the older 129 & 144 cubic inch engines. Remember the original 77 gas engine was a 3.187 bore engine. Now you are moving it out to 3.750?

I think if you do not work them real hard, pulling at 60%-75% load vs 100% load you would be alright, my brother used my 66 with 3.75 bore on his small feed grinder last winter while I redid the head on my 77. I went to visit with him toward spring, he was grinding feed, about kicked him for lugging the engine down to nothing, he said he ran it that way all winter, now it smokes a bit

First off, Nice Handle!! I've always been big into engine swaps and mods. If I had a dime for everytime some one told me "That's a lot more HP than it was designed for." me and Soros would be buddy's. So far as working it, just the engine is bigger not the tractor if you remember that and don't pull equipment that it wouldn't pull stock then nothing changes. Bottom line is it's yours do what you like. I have a feeling you'll have more trouble with the clutch than the crankshaft.
