Kubota Engine oil.....

My old L210 runs like a champ, but I am about to do the 1st oil change since I have owned it. I am a little confused, because the manual just says "DS or DM" and 20 or 30 wt., depending on temp.
The thing I am wondering about is what type of oil to look for-are there separate Rotella specs for diesel vs. gas? What the heck does "DS or DM" mean?
Just trying to get it right, so this thing will last me a long time...
-Thanks in advance-you all rock!

DS & DM are designations for oils set up by the American Petroleum Institute. DS oils are for Severe duty DM oils are for moderate duty. How old is your tractor? Also look in your manual a few very popular engine manufatures do not want you using 15W-40 oil especially this time of year.

Chevrons Delol 30 is a good oil to use in an older unit but if it don't have a lot of hours on it then 10 w 30 would be fine .

Yep, my tractor is old-about 1975 I think. It is hard to dig up much info on these things. The good news it that it has very low time-not even 600 hrs.
-Thanks

In the 50's & 60's oil companies used these letters:

ML, MM, MS (motor light, motor medium, motor severe referring to gasoline fueled engines)

DG, DM, DS (diesel general, diesel medium, diesel severe)

My 1977 B6100 HST only gets diesel rated 30wt. I used 15 40 rotella once and the engine seemed noiser. I think the key is a very high detergent oil. I use Marathon multipower 30. good stuff!

J Is this what you are looking for?
