Kuhn 66 Disk mower question

I have a kuhn 66 and have a question about it. Have had it for several years and never been "into" the bar. The second disk locked up a few days ago, showed it a little love and got done with the field I was in. Now it is wabbley and hangs up when you spin it by hand. It is act'n like it has a bad bearing. Going to try to dig into it next time I am off work. Any one ever seen this? How big of a job is it? What do I need to look for when I get the disk off? Any one know for sure what parts I need to call and order from the dealer? Thank you in advance, may be a day or two before I am on line again.

I.ve never been into a Kuhn, but generally late model disc mowers have the heads that are easily removeable. Probably just remove the blade carrier and then you will be able to get to the bolts that hold the gear assembly to the cutter bar. You are probably right about it being a bad bearing. Some issues to be aware of: Drain the oil and check it for metal filings. If you find a broken tooth, then you have big problems. you will need to remove all the heads and check for broken gears. Put a sharp pencil to the cost or replacing gears, it may be cheaper to either junk the machine or buy a new cutter bar assembly. When you remove the first cutter head and any others, be sure and note the position. The heads have to be in time with each other and timing them when starting over is difficult. Don't over fill the cutterbar with oil, a Kuhn service rep told me the mowers would work better a little low on oil rather than overfull. I saw a kuhn disc MOCO cutter bar that was ruined by overfilling. $2500 for a new cutter bar ath that time. I'm a believer in changing the oil in the cutter bar and gearbox each season. Good luck.

I've never had a bar apart on a GMD.... but I do know that there is NO easy way to do that. Remove all the discs, then flip it over and start removing all the bolts. I think you'll find that the large allen head screws underneath are what actually hold the bar together. You'll probably need to fab a tool to remove them.... a tool that will like about 1200 lb-ft of torque. When you open it, do an assessment then of what you need in terms of gears. Otherwise, a full set of bearings and seals is in order. Don't just replace 1 bearing. IF 1 is gone now, the rest are soon to follow, and it't too much work separating that deck to do it more than once....
For what it's worth, you can't overfill a GMD deck with oil unless you flip the mower upside down. The fill plug is the level plug if you fill it standing up.

The New Holland 462 is the same mower.If you locked up I would guess you need to split the bar before destoying a couple thousand dollars in gears. The top brg can be replaced without spliting. I am attaching N.H. web site, just search for 462 disc mower and you can print the pages.
