late 40 I'm rebuilding

Haven't overhauled an N for myself for a while so I'm working on a late 40 as a keeper. Bought it in March, had not run for several years. Had 2 stuck valves. I'm changing all the parts to original and using parts from a parts 39 I have, swapped some parts with my 43, some from ebay, and a handfull of new parts thrown in.

Don't laugh but tonight its all together although it does not match. It took some time working the doglegs and grill to get the grill to fit. The goal is to assemble it and run it this summer and fall overhaul this winter. I have a set of CM Halls for the front but I'll wait untill the restoration to mount them.

That's going to be a nice tractor when you get finished. I'd like to find a 9n to sit next to my 8n's in our barn. Need some battleship grey next to the redbellies. lol

That is looking real nice. Good decission to mount the doglegs and grill before painting them.
That looks like a really straight hood.

Its not pretty (yet) but I've selected the best parts from 2 40s and a parts 39 that I have. The other 40 is not being parted but will get cleaned up and sold as a running tractor.

Unfortunately this one came with a complete 8n front axle assy which has been relocated to the other 40. I'm fortunate as between the 3 I have some nice parts to work with. The clips that you made are headed for this tractor.

The gray on the front wheels is Van Sickle dark Ford Gray, lightened be me. They came off my 43 which is red/gray. The 43 just received a set of 16" that I made.

The hood came that color, its kind of like the Johnny Cash song with all the Cadillac parts except these are all the same year, just different sources

The rear wheels and tires I bought on ebay. The other 40 I bought had a perfect set of 28" hat rims that I sold on ebay which nearly paid for these. I drove to the west side of St. Louis to pick these up, back when gas was 2.50 a gallon, about a 5 hour drive each way. The tires are like new with a few scrapes and cuts on the tread.

The wheels came off the 43 I have. I moved it to 16" as I had the tires.
I made the wheels from 16" wheels I had and a couple of donor 19" centers, 1 from TOH.

That little project was 3x as much work as I expected.
