Late 4050 - Electrical Issues

Working on my relatively-new-to-me late model 4050. Long story short: hardly any gauges work, and none of the knobs overhead (AC, heat, wipers, etc.) work. However, the flashers built into the cab do work (except the ones I need to replace the bulbs in haha). This tractor does *not* have the Investigator II dash, or whatever it's called. The gauges look like the 4230 my family had when I was growing up, if that helps.

I have the Owner's and IT Manuals for this tractor, but I don't seem to see where there are any fuses. Am I missing something? My father seems to think there is some kind of control board under the dash that is causing the trouble. Could this board be the culprit?

I would appreciate any advice as to where to start...an old JD mechanic that goes to my church recommended buying an entirely new wire harness and starting over...

You can make your own harness or at least
sections of it . For electrical work and diagnosis you
need the John Deere service manual

There is a small odd shaped panel in front of the clutch pedal, remove that and look at the electrical there. Maybe remove the rest of the panel that wraps around the dash. Make sure the plug is pushed in, behind the gauge cluster, older ones were just a press fit and tape wrapped around plug.

connections to ground/chassis are often corroded .
Need the real factory service manual . There is a free parts book on the JDweb site .
Do you own a decent multimeter ?

Ditto what matthies stated. Remove cowling in front of instrument panel. Check operation of cab relay(key 23) & tightness of all nuts securing circuit breakers to plastic housing.
