lawn mowers

what shape deck is best for the zero turn mowers, the rounded ones or the squared up ones. i have concerns about the clippings piling up inside the housing on the squared up ones, however, they do look stronger. is this a concern? thanks for your thoughts.

Rounded won't collect the grass like square cornered. Mow only when the grass is dry or late in the day and the deck won't collect the wet grass.

In my small business I use two Toro home owner type mowers. Both have the stamped deck and it seems that you can bounce off of posts and trees much better and not do any damage to the tree or the deck. They also have a wash port built in so are eazy to keep clean.Ionldy do 12 lawns each week so do not use the machines that much,(10 hrs. a week). Both are zero turns and have held up quit well.

Look underneath the deck. Some mowers have a circular deflector built under the deck to take care of those concerns.

The rounded decks appear to be made out of thinner material. Thin enough that they are stamped, rather than welded. My old 1970 Wheel Horse deck wore/rusted out long ago, but the tractor still runs good. I had repaired the WH deck so many times that it was almost too heavy to lift. It was a stamped deck. As a result, I looked hard at the deck construction and servicability when I was looking for a new zero turn mower. I wanted a heavy built deck, that could be easily cleaned after each mowing.

Just my opinion, and it's worth what you paid for it. . .

I have EXMARKS with fabricated, or square decks. The grass dosent build up any more than a stamped deck. There are 3 baffels around the blades on the square deck. The stamped decks also build up grass. I mow from 8:00am to 4:00 pm 5 days a week, so we cant always mow when its dry. The fabricated deck is much stronger than a stamped deck, if you were to hit something, say a stump, water marker or what have you.
