Leaky UB Steering Box

My steering box is leaking just enough to make a mess. A guy pretty familiar with Minnies told me that there is a rope seal around the shaft that gets dried out and all you have to do is replace it but he didn't know where to find one. Anybody know? Also the PTO shaft is leaking the same way does anyone know if it takes the same seal? Thanks

Some older cars used rope seals for rear mains, that is what I used. I did get some from White awhile back but dont know if agco discontinued that item. Is it leaking out around the steering shaft?

The gasket on the front cover of the steering box seems to be dry it just seems to be leaking around the shaft. The PTO looks like the gasket and the rope seal are leaking but I have gasket paper to make a new gasket for the cover. It is supposed to rain Tue and Wed so maybe I will get up to Arthur to the AGCO dealer and check that out. Thanks

I think there is a lip seal there where the steering shaft goes in the front pedestal. You may have to snug up the bearings to make a new seal there work, though.

It will leak out the bottom if:
1. there is too much oil in there, or if there is water under the oil. (If your UB is like the ZB, there are two plugs on the side. The level is upper plug. (Some only had one plug.

2. there is a crack somewhere.

3. The tractor spend a long time leaning over.
(the oil is kept in place with just a lip, if it leans too much it could run over.

Yep Arthur or Teutopolis, IL are the closest AGCO dealers to me. I live in Ashmore, IL just 6 mile east of Charleston.
