Learn me about jacks

I saw a jack that must have been a Ford concoction that used the 3 pt to lift the rear end ( I think) and I also own a long farm jack, you know them Red ratchet types about 4' tall.
What are some best ways to lift my 52 ? I'd love to know or have the Ford one that I saw somewhere.

Hints, help or anything I should watch out for?

yes there is a jack that goes under the N series tractors it is 2 pieces one that lifts the front and one that lifts the rear AT the same time, the 3pt hooks too it and you raise the 3pt and the whole tractor comes up at once, now if you have a perfect level concrete slab to do this id say its a kool tool BUT like me a gravel drive the thing would sink and bend and drop the tractor on me as for your hi lift jack or some call it a "dead mans jack" because if it kicking out and getting you... i have one and like it, its nice to have BUT my choice is a good bottle jack and solid blocks of wood to hold up the tractor, DONT use cement blocks!! ive seen several of these shatter and drop things

Sphere; they work pretty nice.They lift the whole tractor. We had one we used on our Fergusons. Seems we were always setting wheels in or out.

They are a two peice unit with a chain between the two peices. One peice sets under the front end the other sets under the rear axles
and is hooked to the 3pth.

The lift you describe, was made by "DEARBORN", for Ford!
I have one that I had made for me.
If you would like the plans and instructions for one, My email is always open on the bottom of my replies/posts, of the Modern side of this forum.
I use mine for various things and have never had a bit of problem, even on gravel driveway.
My 2N was on mine for about 2 mos., in the same spot, while re-painting, and never wavered!!!
Couple of pix for you...Start to finish......works good. I just used it in my shop to install rear tire chains for plowing snow!!

I think the best to use is a hydraulic floor jack and jack stands. The floor jack makes it easy to lift and the jack stands provide stability. If I plan to leave the tractor raised over night or longer I block it up with wood blocks. The 3 pt lift is OK if you can find one and work on a concrete floor. I think the farm type high lift jack can be dangerous.

I too made one......only made ONE mistake! The lift height is about 2" TOO much, so if you lift the 3 point arms TOO much it will "rock over"....and on level ground I have to push it back down. I am too lazy to cut the pipe !

What did you use to make sure the lift didn't leak down while it was up, or is the tractor balanced on the lift so that the 3pt isn't holding it up once it's raised?

Also, if you could email me the plans that would be great.

I use a safty chain, that I install after the tractor jack is in the full up possition, that will stop any leak-down.
Watch yer email for pix of that AND the instructions/measurements for building one!!!
I'll get it to you, sometime, this afternoon!!!
Hope yer re-build is going along smoothly!!!???
Going back to the carb-shack to get everything in order, for next weeks on-slaught!!! :roll:

I've also seen the contraptions,really interesting,but simple.Most things from that era were simple,but very utilitarian.I use a floor jack,bottle jack and I have 5 jack stands[don't know why 5,but just because].---lha

The Hi lift jack can drop a load. The climbing pins have to be kept clean and lightly oiled.The handle can kick up if you dont keep a tite hold on it.Useful tool if used right.I would compare it to an axe.Get stupid using it and you will get hurt.
