Live pto on jubilee

Sorry to keep bugging you guys on this.I went out to the garage and looked and the handle was on the left side.I just found a picture on the net searching that shows it.Is this a live pto set-up?https://photos.yesterdaystractors.com/contents/tpic3914.htm Again, Thank you fo your help..Steve

No. That is the handle to a Howard Gear Reduction Unit. A groundspeed reducer for use when roto-tilling. Does not effect PTO speeds like the Shermans or Hupps, etc. It is NOT a pulling gear. Use it for that and you'll destroy it.

First off, I would ask questions about a Jube over on the Ford N board. Folks here aren't dumb by any means but they don't have the specialized knowledge that the Ford N fellows have.
Looks like you have a fairly rare Ford Dearborn Live PTO Option.
It wasn't really Live. I belirve they just installed a clutch pack in place of the splined coupler between the transmission output shaft and the pinion shaft in the rear end.
That allowed you to stop forward motion without interrupting power to the pto.
The next series later (600/800) Ford offered tractors with a dual clutch and Lpto.
Not untill the 3 cyl Fords in the mid 60s did Ford offer an independent pto.
A Howard tranny which was made to reduce ground speed while maintaining 540 rpm had the lever on the Right side of the tractor. Both devices are sought after by collectors.

I'm not going to say that Cutter is wrong. What I will say is that there is a 50% chance that this is indeed a "live" pto option. Live pto was an option on the jubilee, as was the reduction unit. BOTH of them were located thru the pto side cover. An example is pictured in the n-news letter... volume 15, number 1, page 13. I realize that the shift handles are different, but anything can be made to fit. Just my .02

Cutter is right. That is a Howard gear reducer. Very rare and hard to find. Expensive to buy if you can find one. Click the link for a photo essay I did on the Ford forum a few months ago when I removed a Howard from a Jubilee. It will help you understand what's going on inside your tractor when you move that lever.

Jubilee/NAA never had a true live PTO. The lever you found is to engage the PTO nothing more nothing less. If it had live PTO it would have another lever to do so and thats a 1 in a million sort of thing and not likely you have one and its not factory either

Did you look at the picture below CLOSE?
I see two handles there and neither of them look like the ones in Jim's photos.
I didn't know the howard lever was on the Left on a Jube.
But I still think it's not a Howard but the LPTO option.

I think he was refering to the plumbing for the hydraulics for the live pto option. Ran off the back of the regular hydraulic pump, like the proof meter.

My photo of the Howard lever looks different because I took the photo from a bad angle....almost directly on top of the knob. In reality it looks just like the lever in his photo.

Here's what a live pto option lever looks like. I took this several years ago. This tractor was lying on its belly in the weeds of a boneyard. You can see the hydraulic line running forward where it loops up over the trans case and connects to the hyd pump on the engine.
