Can anyone tell me if any of the TO series Fergusons had a live PTO? Also which model and what HP it had. I have a TO 20 with a 4 foot flail mower and it's pulling the tractor down too much so I need a live PTO and more HP. I'm hoping a TO 30 or 35 might have had the live PTO.
I really like my 20, just not strong enough for what I need.

The TO-35 Deluxe was the first Ferguson with live PTO. The 30 did not have it. The 35 only had it on the Deluxe. Push clutch half way and tractor stops but PTO keeps turning. Push all the way and PTO stops. The F40 and MH50 and MF50 have live PTO.

Do you know if the 35 Delux was a 12 volt system? Thanks for your help. If you know where I can locate one, please keep me in mind. Also I will list my TO 20 for sale on the site.

Some of the early TO35 were 6 volt. My fathers original green and grey is/came 6 volt.

If you run any sort of attachment, then go for the live p.t.o. It is heads and shoulders nicer than the 20's, 30's and early N series Fords.

Just operating a lift pole (boom) is a pain once your used to live p.t.o.

Chuck. There is a letter code on the Serial plate (some early versions did not have this but 1957 and later did.)

The third position was the transmission type. The letter M denotes the two stage clutch or live PTO.

i.e. SGM - Standard 4 wheel chassie- Gas motor - two stage clutch.

The letter F denotes the single stage clutch.
i.e. SGF

Either way you should verify it's operation but this may help weed out some before you run all over the country.

The local dealer here in WI has two TO-35"s one is a 1955 with original grey and green paint the other is not as nice but is a 1957 with cream and grey paint. The first is very original and in very good condition except one fender is dented. If interested post your email address and I will give you their phone # I have dealt with them for over 30 years

There was a rare option on 30's that had a lever on the left cover plate that would disengage the rear wheels and keep the pto running. I believe it was a sherman option, it was also used on the 8n's as well.

Sounds like you guys are talking about the Allis Chalmers CA style pto clutch, I think they call it a 'differential interuptor', or something like that. Mine doesn't work, it's always in gear, which is better that beeing left in nuetral huh? this option sounds like it's worth looking into.

I assume from your post reply to my post that you prefer 12 volts, but 6 volts works fine if you keep it in good shape. There were Deluxe models with both. As others said, verify the operation. The two stage clutch is more expensive than the single stage if you have to replace it, and the two do not interchange. Don't forget the MF/MH50 have the same capabilities, the same engine, the same hydraulics, and were always live PTO, always 12 volts to my knowledge, and not generally as collectible as the 35 and therefore often cheaper. The MH50 and MF50 are the same tractor except for hood sheet metal. You might include them in your search. The F40 is also the same, except for sheet metal, but more collectible and thus often more expensive. Another option for you might be the 65.... As mentioned, look at the ads on this site.
