Loctite 640 Sleeve Application

How much Loctite should I put on my sleeves prior to installation? To me it seems like I should insert the sleeve 3/4 into the block, loctite an inch or two below the top lip, and quickly push the sleeve the rest of the way in. From what I read, the bond time for loctite is relatively quick. Will a couple inches hold the sleeve tight? I have two sleeves that are moderate tight and have me concerned.

Shear strength of LT 640 is in excess of 3000 PSI. So a 1" band around the top of the sleeve is ~9 square inches = 13+ tons of shear. I think that should be more than sufficient to keep them in place.

You can apply the compound to the sleeve prior to starting it in the bore - it only cures in the absence of air so it won't start setting until the coated area enters the block. Make sure you get them fully in from the get-go - you won't be adjusting them 20 minutes later....

(quoted from post at 18:16:38 05/26/09) TOH, How can that sleeve be removed in the future? Do you have a more powerful puller in the works?

Dynamite

Seriously the disassembly instructions on the 640 data sheet say to "apply localized heat to the assembly to approximately 250C. Disassemble while hot."

So just use your regular puller and your Kevlar shop gloves
