log splitter screw head

I have one and I have to say I like it. I try to be very careful and not get in a rush. Also be sure the wood is long enough to catch on the bar and not jump off. And... IDLE the tractor. Do not run the pto fast run it as slow as possible. I have busted alot of wood with mine and my father in law had one before that and busted lots of wood with it. Just be careful and have someone else to help its a lot easier with 2 people. Anyway thats just my opinion not sure if it will go along with the crowd but oh well.

I think if you will check they are still made under the name stickler. Check ebay there are several listed there new. They are dangerous if used improperly just like anything else related to this type of machinery. Hydraulic logsplitters are dangerous to. I know a man that lost a finger to one and he was always careful but he slipped just once. Anything is dangerous if not used with some good judgement.

"they quit making them bacause they killed people ,why would you want one they are dangerous"

Well, this attitude is the reason that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to buy stuffs that is USEFUL! EVERYTHING is dangerous, if IMPROPERLY handled, even water! If ya don't wanna use one, don't! BUT, don't agitate to have them removed because you think someone might get hurt! That is BAD!! I have seen many of them, and used a couple of them, but never actually owned one. But if I needed one, I would get it even tho they are UNSAFE! After all it is "unsafe" to get up in the morning & breathe in the air in some communities! Where would this country be if folks had never done "unsafe" things? I assume u don't drive a car, because everybody knows more folks have been killed in cars than Sticklers will ever kill/hurt! How about flying..that is a dangerous thing to do! Why don' u go back 2 bed & worry about "safety" there? CC, who knows about risk-taking!! PS: I entered the word "stickler" in Ebay search..see url.

I agree we have too many nannies watching over us to protect us from the idiots. It is dumbing down our population because the idiots are able to reproduce. Anyhow I know people who love using the screw splitters because they are simple, work fast and require little upkeep. The downside I see to them is that if something goes wrong it happens very fast and you can't stop the tool quickly. It would be just like being caught in a PTO shaft. Whatever happens is done in an instant and then it just keeps going. Even if someone was sitting on the shutoff you would be hurt before they could stop it.

I've never used one, but what you just said is enough to make me never want one. It sounds like a slow finicky machine that should have 2 people around it. I prefer simple, fast one man operations... I hate having people around me when I'm running a splitter.
I'm with the big pump/big sliptter/multi wedge crowd.... but we all do what works.

Conserative or dip stick I guess you have never saw the aftermath of a accident involving one of these splitters .I went out to one accident secne after a chunk of of wood got stuck in one and after it freed it's self the flying wood pieces almost took the head off a 14 year old that was standing 30' away . These things are just plain dangerous , but I agree they do work , but I prefer the old hyd splitters since the wood really can't get launched out into outer space by one and you really have to be dumb or slow to lose any body parts in a hyd splitter much safer .

"Conserative or dip stick I guess you have never saw the aftermath of a accident involving one of these splitters "

So, on the basis of ONE screwup, u wanna deprive ALL of us of a good cheap way to split wood! This is typical!! The reason we don't have the Dreaded Cordwood Saws 4 our tractors anymore! What ever happened to COMMON SENSE & PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY? That go out with the CURRENT NANNYISM & POLITICAL CORRECTNESS that is RUINING our ONCE FINE COUNTRY?? I do agree that they are dangerous. So what?? If we wanna make everything "safe"..nobody will get much useful stuffs done!! Machines can KILL!! Know this & don't abuse the machine! If NOT U shouldn't be operating anything more complicated than a rattle!! CC, who is tired of SAFETY FREAKS ruining everything 4 folks!!

CC, There was an article the other day, said that if asprin was invented today, it would not be sold over the counter with our current laws, we all know that would be a bad thing.

On the other hand after reading about these screw type splitters, I dont want one for Christmas.

cargo cult there has been more than 1 accident from the screw type splitters , to me they are like the pinto or the chevy trucks with the gas tanks on the outside of the frame an accident waiting to happen .

"cargo cult there has been more than 1 accident from the screw type splitters ,"

Well, so I guess u won't be buying one! That is cool! HOWEVER, please don't try to prevent ME or anyone else from getting one 4 themselves! That ain't cool!! Nuff sed!! CC

(quoted from post at 00:19:11 09/11/07) I am looking for a screw head for a screw type log splitter. Is there one around anywhere?
I must say that I own one and they are dangerous if used carelessly. But lets start a list of other dangerous things concerning this old iron hobby we love so much. The first that comes to my mind is post hole diggers. They may be one of the most dangerous things on the farm. They too can get away from you fast and nobody could shut it off fast enough. How about narrow front tractors. All my tractors are narrow front. I guess they are too dangerous too.
