Lost my throttle control - Farmall A

Not sure what happened but it's been on the fritz for a little bit. But basically, the throttle lever with the little teeth doesn't change the speed of the tractor anymore. It's basically at idle. It might go up in RPM by sound a nearly indistinguishable amount, but thats it.

I have ZERO clue about this system or what I need to do.

What's the fix?

Something is either stuck or broken in the govenor. That linkage heads from the throttle lever to the govenor and then from the govenor to the carburetor. Can you move the linkage at the carburetor to increase rpms? See if its a linkage binding issue first, otherwise the govenor will most likely have to come apart.

Start by following the linkage from the lever to the governor then to the carb. It may be as simple as a pin cable out of a joint failed along the way.

The spring inside the governor likely broke.
Number 5 in the linked diagram.

Here is a link to the one YT sells. Probably cheaper to go to a dealer and pay the $17 some dollars since YT will charge you $15 to ship it. Farmall A governor spring from YT

Yep, you guys beat me to it. Like mentioned above id suspect the spring is done. Here's a pic of the insides of a govenor from a '47 a i have sitting on a shelf. 20260107_172950.jpg

Edited to turn the picture right side up

Sorry, the pages are in the reverse order. Had both pics loaded but once again this one was upside down.
Thanks! Let me check the carburetor first and then I'll go from there. Are those two pages all I need to follow to take the governor off to service should it in fact need a spring? Also, what manual is that, I think I will go ahead and get my own.

Its just the I&T shop manual. Im sure there are better ones out there. This one covers the letter series farmalls and the cub.

While removing the governor from the tractor, don't remove the gear assy., because it drives the distributor and you would likely get it out of time. Not a fun job to remove the governor housing as the fan shroud is right there. Unbolting shroud helps a little bit to give more access.

We pull the governor off every Farmall we buy, fix, service or collect ( dozens every year)😁. Simple to do, nothing to be worried about. Text or call me. Happy to walk you through it.

Here's short video we made.

Wish I get that lucky on what I find when I got problems. Another good example where trouble shooting first is better than buying a lot of unneeded parts and it still doesn't work.

OK, so i checked everything out and it looks like the throttle plate on the carburetor was just hung up. There is a black wire that goes to the generator that runs near that area and it must have gotten stuck. Also the machine sat for a long time.
Good deal, thanks for posting back with the resolution!
