Low oil pressure

New to the forum. Thanks for the add! I'm in the market for a small tractor to use for driveway maintenance and general use (no farming). I looked at a 9n this morning that started and ran really nice but went from 25-30lbs of oil pressure at startup to zero at low idle after running for 10-15 minutes. I forgot to check to see if the pressure came up any at higher rpms. He's running 10w30wt oil. He's says it's run this way for years. Is this a deal breaker?

Depends on what he?s asking for it. Could be that gauge is faulty or if you got it cheap enough you might could try
some 20w-50 oil in it, but as is , the price of the tractor needs to be reasonable enough to include a possible rebuild
in the days ahead. I would factor in the cost of an overhaul before paying too much for it.

Yea, I'm sure it has run w/ little or no oil pressure at hot idle for years.

And you might get another year or two.....or more out of it.

Bottom line is going to be the asking price and your ability to rebuild the engine.

Remember, a 9N w/ a rebuilt engine (at a cost of $2k) might get you $2k when you go to sell it.

You are looking at an engine on the edge. As Mr Eastwood says: "are you feeling lucky". Regardless of price keep looking.

Thanks. The tractor is already priced at $2200, which I think is a little high. The
norm for this area seems to be anywhere from $2200-$4000. That's kind of
irritating, because when I look at neighboring states, I see them priced at around
$1500 all the time (I live in south-central Kansas). I'll keep looking.

Pete, I don't think that you have looked at enough if the ones that ou have seen average $2300.
