I can't decide what tractor to build up. I have a farmall m and a 560. I'm planing on around 100-125hp. I know what it will take to get the engine's there but can't decide on witch tractor. Plan on pulling in 5500-7500lb 3mph class's. So what is your guys opinion? thanks in advance.

put a 301 combine engine in 560 if only 3mph budget puller that would be the way to go,our take sleaves out of 560 and make it a 301

Not sure where you plan to pull, but keep in mind in most clubs a 560 can not pull due to production era. So in that case i would build the M so you could pull anitque, open, farm stock, whatever

I'd go for the M if your budget numbers come up similar for similar HP. Just my opinion, but I think 560's are some of the ugliest tractors ever made by anyone. I never understood how IH went from the sleak stylish curves of the M's, H's, etc. and regressed through the 400's ad 450's to a rectangular box of sheet metal sitting on the 560's. I guess cars of those same eras were doing the same thing though - going from stylish curves to boxes on wheels.

You sit in the seat - drive what you like and have fun.

If you were my competition I'd tell you to

build the M. If you were my friend,I'd tell you

to build the 560. Dollar for dollar the 560 will

crush the M. A 460 would be better yet,but you own

both tractors you asked about.

You can make a 263 560 engine into a 291 (706 engine) with all over the counter parts for about the same money you can do a good rebuild on an M. You can run that 291 (or 301 if you find a good deal on one) as hard a 3500-4000 rpm"s and never blink an eye and take it home and bale hay or mow all day with it if you want. To make an M beat a good 291 consitently, you will have to go big bore and probably add stroke, adding up dollars pretty quick. Unless you just want to sit on an M or write checks, I"d to with a 560. I"ve been pulling a 460 or 560 for about 9 years now and never been turned away due to age, but that"s all in where you live I suppose.

One reason you see so many "Ms" at pulls is the amount of aftermarket parts you can buy.
But i think one of its best points is its balance , i have had it so perfect my weight in the seat sliding front or back would lift the front end.

Besides those 560 are A$$ ugly....

I think the 60 series are pretty sharp looking!

This is one that has pretty good tin on it!

Tore every nut n bolt out of this one last year.

It will fry those tires.

The old 560 looks pretty good Chad. We had one on the farm that pulled really good in stock form. It seems to be all personal preferance here but I would go with the 6 cylinder tractor any day.

Sorry if I hit a nerve Jim. He asked for an OPINION and I gave one that wasn't engine/power based since he said he already had that part figured out. It was meant as a fun poke at some IH friends. I could care less what anyone else drives nor do I care what anyone thinks of what I drive (squarer than a 560 - a case CC).

Have a nice day.

the 560s are much better looking tractors than the Ms, I have both also&are a 60s baby. MY dads 560 diesel was first tractor i learned how to drive, still favorite tractor. ITS a much better tractor to drive than any MorH. Little bit of partiallity?
