Machine shop made good on its work!

I called the shop (Pinkston's)that did my engine block the day after I talked to ya'll on the forums about the busted lip on my sleeve. He said no problem and since I live almost 2hours away he would get the new part and I could have it done while I wait.

Went in today, knocked the old one out, pressed the new one in (with sleeve lock compound). I was impressed he took responsibility for his work and made good on it. Even apologized for the inconvenience he caused me.

Heck the extra down time even let me scrape and paint the trans/rear.

Thanks all for the advice!

'm really glad it all worked out so nicely for you. I am sure the last night was not a good sleep night for you.....sorry. I have found, for whatever unknown reason, when I'm all bothered and worked up & expecting the worst fight, I walk in and it is nothing. Then when un-prepared, I'm broadsided ! Life is just weird!

Generally, we never know if we made any money until after the end of the year.

OUR phylosophy, It is our REPUTATIONS that we want to protect. It is now just a few "bucks".

Machinists are hard to come by.

Sounds like YOU found a good one. Keep him working.

(quoted from post at 08:40:53 05/22/09) What a great way to keep a customer.

Really?? Lets consider:
[list:6024a96631]
[*:6024a96631]Customer picks up completed work, sees damage and immediately brings it to the attention of the shop
[*:6024a96631]Shop tells customer no problem - will work fine as is
[*:6024a96631]Customer drives 2 hours home, asks frriends for opinions. All agree that damage is unacceptable.
[*:6024a96631]Customer calls shop and complains a second time
[*:6024a96631] Shop agrees to fix damage
[*:6024a96631]Customer drives 2 hours to shop to get original problem fixed.
[/list:u:6024a96631]

I'm glad the damage was ultimately rectified but if I were the customer I would not be returning any time soon. The idea that they would knowingly attempt to get the customer to accept what can only be described as botched work is totally unacceptable in my book. Once the damage was initially brought to their attention (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt by assuming they didn't already know) the repairs should have been made at their expense without further discussion. I'm pretty easy to deal with when it comes to schedules, missed delivery dates, cost over runs, etc. But when I pay you for your professional services and you give me work you screwed up and then push me to take it when I want it fixed I'm not ever coming back.

"Quality Control" .... is NOT simply checking your work occasionally to see if some random-sample meets specification.

"Quality-Contol" ..... is CONTROLLING QUALITY[u:7f23118e88] as the work is performed[/u:7f23118e88]! There should be NO NEED for a seperate inspector, even tho' one might be employed to insure against slackness.

If the work is declared finished by the worker and it's not up to standard... and the customer ever sees that..... the worker is re-trained ONE TIME! Second time: he's FIRED!

The BEST sign I've ever seen in a workplace:
"Any of our employees not fired with enthusiasm ..... WILL BE!"
