Made in USA?

Got a new Stanley tape measure today at Sears since they quit making craftsman ones. Says on the package "Made in USA from global materials" What is that supposed to mean?

Probably someone here screwed in the screws that hold the cover together and everything else was done somewhere cheaper.

Yeah it is exactly like that with Raleigh Bicycles here in The UK. British frame but everything else on them is made in Japan, Belgium, China, Taiwan etc.

I'm confussed "made in USA" "made in China". Do the China robots work for less than the USA robots?

That means screws and plastic covers are imported from the Orient and it is assembled here.

It could mean almost anything. It could mean the parts are made overseas and assembled in the US. Or it could mean your tape measure was made in China and packaged in the US.

Probably the same thing as my newest ShopVac that says, "Proudly assembled in the USA" on its box. I had heard sometime back that companies were going to be prevented through legislation from having any information on their boxes or materials that identified their origins...period.

But back to your original question, "What is that supposed to mean", my guess is that no good can come of it.

As a START to getting our nation back on the right track, don't forget to vote on Tuesday, and don't let up on whoever is elected afterwards until they themselves are out of office.

Don't give up. Something interesting is happening in China. In 1979, China made it unlawful for couples to have more than one child.

So now, just when manufacturing is booming in China, the workforce is shrinking due to a lack of new laborers coming of age. Simple law of supply and demand. Demand for labor is going up at a time when available labor is becoming scarce. Ergo, wages in China are being driven up.

Sometime in the foreseeable future, cheap labor in China will be a thing of the past, causing American outsourcers to have nightmares and rethink their whole schtick.

Lenox saw blades are another one "assembled in the USA from global components". Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the components in one of these are, and they are NOT worth the trouble to carry back to the shop! Pure junk now. Added to the list with Ingersol-Rand air tools, Vise-grip (Irwin) and Colgate toothpaste. 3 more trusted names I've trusted all my life that I refuse to buy again!

I worked at a bulk Lenox blade dealer about 2 years ago. They are or already have moved production to China and I think were going to be closing their huge US blade factory. Dave

The transition must be finished now. Their blades last 1 or 2 cuts now and are shot. Used to last 20 or 30 cuts in the same materials. Of course they are no cheaper price wise.

Petersen vice grips have gone way up in price since they are made in china.I saw one that had made in usa stamped into the handle but there was a made in china on the back of the package.The US co must have shipped the tooling to china.
