Major Problem Fixing Injector Pump Leak

Okay, just wanted to make sure. I am kind of baffled with the pump now. I discovered this afternoon that the three hub bolts are not lining up with the holes through the gear. They are just slightly out of position. I am wondering if the shop that rebuilt the pump gave me the wrong drive hub for my tractor. How is it physically possible the holes wouldn't match?

I'll bet the GEAR PIN is NOT in the hub notch then. That's the only way it could happen. CAV DPA pumps on Ford, Perkins and some JD all use the SAME hub. Question, was a NEW hub installed??

Thanks for the quick response! It feels like it is in the groove. Is it possible to push the pin through when the pump is seated? A new hub was installed because of excessive wear.

If the hub is from C hina it might not be made right. I wiggle the pump AND the gear to get that pin in the hub groove, then the bolts usually go right into place.

You were right Dieseltech. The pin wasn't indexed. I didn't realize how much flex there was with the timing gear. I was just pushing the gear in some but not actually aligning the pin in the hub groove. It is seated now.

Finally got it started today! No problem at all starting after bleeding the system. What a relief. Do have pesky leaks at the inlet and outlet lines. I'll have to fiddle with those a little more. Also, it trails a little exhaust underload. It always did somewhat. I wonder if rotating the pump out a hair would be worthwhile to try to clear this?
