Making tires hard

Is their a way to make a soft tire hard? It seems easier to find new tires than old hard tires.

I heard you could put them in the bottom of a silo for a year and that would do it.

kerosene bullet heater.jack up tractor, put in low gear, idle, with heater blowing on it,the trick is to dry the tire out.the older the tires are the harder they will be.thats how tire cutters do it , but on a turn table.

The rubber that the tires are made of has oils or compounds of oils in it. Time and weather dry them out which causes the rubber to get brittle and thus the weather cracking. The person that suggested to use a torpedo heater may have a good idea as the heat and flame would dry the oils but tooo much heat and the rubber starts to deteriate. So be cautious if you do this method.

i've known people to put salt on them for a while, sucks the moisture right out. be careful though as it can shrink them a little too.

another idea is to leave them out in the sun but make sure to rotate them to keep it even.
