Massey 1105 need advice

OK folks, heres the story...A little over a year ago I had bought the 1105, with a leon front end loader and duels. It seemed like a pretty good tractor. I had plowed up 200 acres with a 4 bottom plow, did not seem to be a heavy pull for the tractor. The tractor burned a lot of oil so that winter I had bought a kit to rebuild the motor, 1000 clams for the kit , no big deal. So anyway, That winter I had the motor running like a top, I couldnt wait for spring to put it under a load.
Spring finaly arrived so I hooked up to the disc and started to disc. the motor run great! I was very pleased. I did about 20 acres then the tractor just would not move. I dragged the machine to the shop and tore it apart, I first thought it was the clutch that flew apart but it wasnt. It ended up being the spline between the trans and the rear end.
I found out later that the tractors were common for that spline to go out in them.
So heres my question... do you think I should fix the tractor or part it out, if I fix it would the same spline go out again??? Should I get uncle tony up here to help me fix it? dont know if I could afford all the cases of black label for him... sorry for the long story, any advice would be good :D

There's an 1105 in my family that my grandfather
bought new. It has about 4000 hrs. on it, but never
had any transmission or rear end problems.
Hydraulics were another story though.

How many hours are on yours?

If you have already rebuilt the motor and now have it apart just go
ahead and replace that spline shaft and you are gonna be lookin at
years of service from that machine.

There are still bunches of 1105 and 1135 around here running fine
and I haven't heard of anybody breaking that spline shaft but
anything is possible to break.

why part if out?

Might as well fix it. You already put the investment in the motor, and you'll know what you have. If you buy something else to replace then your back to square one again. Haven't heard about the splines going bad, usually hydr or brake problems. Those are good reliable tractors, but 30+ years old is just that.

Oh. A Carling Black Label joke. One was due to show up. So the tractor cost is water under the bridge, the kit went well, so does the engine. You already have it tore down... did you contact Fawcett's in Ont? I bet they have 3 drive shafts on a shelf. your shop is done- sorta, the M&M and Volvo are only other ones running good?- you would have this back out of the shop within a month. Hey, sell that farmall thing in there, fix this 1105, buy the 555 back.....

I dont remember how many hours were on the 1105, I believe its under 5000. When I tore it apart last spring I knew where everthing went. Now that it is almost a year, will I remember where everything goes, If I do decide to put the old girl back together I should see i I can buy a service manual for it. That should tell me all the proper torques that should be applied and where all the pieces go.OOOORRRRR is there a site where I can get all that info from. Does Massey fergeson have a site they share so a poor fella like me does not have to buy a book??? Its not that Im cheap....just poor

You can go to agco parts book online and lookup parts just like @ caseih & deere websites. Click on the guest button on the view books page. I strongly suggest the massey service manual has a lot more than IT manual.
