Massey 150 info

I found a Massey 150 with plow, 6' disk, and 6' rotary cutter. Can anyone enlighten me on what it might be worth and also any info on the tractor itself would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking for a utility tractor for some time and saw this for sale about 15 miles from me. It has a freshly rebuilt motor, good tires, new paint, and looks good overall.

Gas or diesel? 6-speed? 6-speed w/MultiPower? or 8-speed? Any idea of year? What sort of condition? % on rubber? Over-all appearance?

The 150 shares a LOT of components with the 135. The difference is the front end. The 150 uses essentially the same steering, axle, sheet metal, fuel tank, air filter, dash (w/gauges) as the 165. For good measure, later 150's came standard with just about all the bells and whistles available as options on the 135.

IMHO, the 150 is the best utility tractor of it's era. The 150 diesel, when tested at Univ of Nebraska Test grounds was the most fuel efficient tractor to date. The heavier and longer front end gives the 150 more stability with a load on the hitch. The longer wheel base lends itself to better handling when the 150 has it's track width set wider than what is normally common on most 135's.

Again, IMHO, the 150 is everything that's good about 135's and much more.

Average prices in this area (Masseys sell good here, Central Kentucky, FYI) Diesels sell for a tad more. Good condition, everything in working order, decent rubber, $4500 to as much as $6500. Gassers sell for around $500 less than a simular diesel.

Even Barack external_link can't give away enough money to get my 150 away from me!

If it's in any kind of decent shape, you'd be hard pressed to find a better utility tractor as you call it. Actually hard to find a better tractor of any kind. Give us some more info but be quick, that tractor probably won't last long. What kind of disc and mower? I'd say it could easily be worth $7000 but it depends on a few things. If it's a diesel, it is a premium tractor. Not that the gas engine is bad but the 3 cylinder Perkins is legendary. Dave

I never had a 150. My 2135 Turf is an outstanding tractor. Your 150 in the photo is the nicest looking 150 I have seen.

In addition to what MF Poor states it would make a better front end loader tractor(if that is your intention) as it has a stronger front axle and superior power steering (if equiped) to the North American built MF135's (not counting the Orchard Model)

This tractor has probably 90% rubber all around. Gas engine 3 cylinder. It has been repainted and the engine was recently overhauled. The asking price is 6000.00. I have also been looking at a 2600 Ford with 861 actual hours on it but this tractor looks to be a lot beefier if you understand what I mean.

$6000 with plow disc and mower? That ain't a bad price. Not exactly a steal, but not bad either. The 150 will work circles around the 2600 Ford. I owned a gas 3000 and a diesel 3000 during the years I owned the 150 (gasser for 34 years, diesel for 4) The 150 would outwork either. It would do so on far less fuel. (advantage to Perkins diesel) and the 150 held up MUCH better. I'm definately not against Ford tractors, but the 150 is FAR more tractor than either the 2000/2600 or 3000/3600 series. BTDT, kept the 150 and sold the rest.

Sounds like you are looking at one with a Continental 4-cylinder gas engine. VERY reliable and not too bad on gas. No advantage to either gas option.

Thank ya kindly! It's been stone reliable, efficient, easy to operate and maintain. The clean-up and paint job took place over 2 years ago. It has a few scratches and wear marks since, but is holding up well. (About 400 hrs since paint) Just recently turned over 3300hrs on clock.

I also have a gas 150. After seven months and $7000, doing my own labor. Great tractor, wouldn't sell this one either. Mine isn't as nice as MF Poor's but it will WORK!!!!!! Hardest part of rebuild was getting the first scratch on it.

I went to look at the 150 Massey today. It started and ran great. Everything worked on it the way it is suppose to except the power steering. It would turn left easily and he adjusted the steering unit in front and then it would turn right easily but not both ways at the same time. Does anyone know anything about the power steering on this tractor?

Also, the plow was in good shape 3 bottom Ferguson plow that converts to 2 bottom.

Dearborn 6' disk nothing really to talk about.

rotary cutter was not in good shape at all.

He did say he would take $5000 for all.

Any input would be appreciated

The problem with the steering SOUNDS like an easily adjusted repair. There's a tapered pin in the top of the steering pedestal (behind grill) that is probably too tight. Also a small turnbuckle there that may need adjusting. Hard to diagnose via internet. (Ya gotta be there...) Owners and service manuals are invaluable on these tractors. They'll walk you through diagnosing and adjusting steering. From your description, I sure wouldn't fear the steering.

Plow is probably worth $200 to $450 depending on condition. Plows hold their value really good. Disc is worth $200+ (MAYBE) depending on condition. Sounds like the mower MAY be worth $250 tops.... MAYBE....

That brings the tractor somewhere in line with $4300/$4400 range. That IS a good buy from what you've told us about the tractor. This is the time of year when tractors like that sell quick, easy, and for good prices. He'll move it soon at that price.
