Massey 180 problems

Recently bought my first tractor, a Massey Ferguson 180. I knew there were problems when I bought it. I.P.T.O. won't stop turning, multi-power does'nt go into high and the loader (which should have down pressure) does'nt. I've been looking through the manual for answers but could use some real world experience. Any help is appreciated.

Your tractor has 2 hydraulic pumps in its belly. The main pump provides pressure for the 3 point hitch. The auxiliary pump sits on top of the main pump and provides pressure for the Multi-Power, Independent PTO and possibly the remote hydraulics. High MP is engaged through a hydraulic clutch pack. Low MP is driven through sprag (over-running) clutch. If the aux. pump is weak, high MP won't work. The pto running all the time is due either to a worn out brake or warped discs in the pto clutch pack.

I also just bought a MF 180. Bob is correct the multipower and remote hdy's are run from the same pump. Remove the small front cover on the front of the tractor. In front of the radiator is an oil cooler and a filter for the system. I'm not saying it will fix your problem but it would be a good place to start by replacing the filter. Agco dealer part # 191855M4, $25.63 plus shipping.. another thing would be to drain out some fluid from the rear transmission housing, drain plug is on left, under brake assembly, see if their is water or bits of metal.. as for the I.P.T.O I haven't got that far yet. I picked up an IT manual on disk for $9.99 from Ebay, looks like lots of good information and testing procedures for multipower system..let us know what you find.

I have a 175, and when I bought it a year ago the multi-power wouldn't shift. I found that the connector between the lever on the dash and the lever on the bell housing was just a bit loose, just enough to keep it from shifting. Once I figure it out it took about five minutes o fix. Check it out, you might be lucky!

Could you also tell of symptoms of the IPTO when that pump is gunnybag? My MP doesn't work yet so trying to determine what route to focus on. Thanks

Tractor is all kinds of torn apart, but not yet split. I found the 90 degree fitting on top of the aux. pump to be loose. Also, the aux. pump as well as possibly the drive gears and pump support plates have probably been replaced. The line between the dashpot and the pump control valve is bent, but not quite enough to kill the flow.
I'm going to look into the 3-point lift piston rings and bore for problems relating to the lift arms shaking while raising as well as a strong pulsation while standing on them.
That's all I can remember for now, I'll post back later. Thanks for your help!
