I bought a massey 55 earlier this fall and kinda' wonder why,as I tend to prefer AC's. It's pretty much complete and runs has anice set of rear tires , anyway do 55's make a good puller? This is a std. not a rowcrop. What can you here on the forum tell about this tractor that would convince me to either keep it and restoe or part it out . Thanks gh

I've seen a few 55 pullers that were pretty wild..It seems you can make some big horsepower out of them, but I think the biggest problem is getting them lite enough to have them in the lighter classes. They are pretty heavy and if you don't strip them down you would be running with the tractors that are bigger and stronger to begin with let alone what the owners do to them after(motor wise).. If its complete and runs I wouldn't part the thing out just sell it as it is. Just my opinion.

My friend has a stock 55 std. wheatland gas. It is mainly stock. It has had the carb gone trhough, K&N clamp on air filter, pertronix in the distributor, and a couple of unnecessary parts removed to make #7000. He is usually in top 3 if not #1 in our stock antique class. If ours is a good runner you're in luck, because the motor is specific to that tractor and parts are hard to come by.
