Randy, Here's how it is from the parts books. The
MF 3 and MF 10 have the same gearcase exactly. The
MF 9 and MF 12 have the same shell for the gear-
box so it would fit, however the gear ratio is
different, 38 teeth vs. 47 teeth. One note of
caution-I'm assuming you have the smaller(hypoid
gear)gearbox. The early 3's had a large bevel
gear gearcase. That would probably not interchange
Usually the smaller,later style never gave any

Thanks so much for the info. Yes, I have a #3 with the small hypoid gearbox which unfortunately has a broken case. I am working on getting a #9 for parts. The different # of teeth would just mean I would have to run the tractor a little slower or faster right? I never run my old #3 at full throttle anyway.
