Massey Harris 44 questions

My Massey Harris 44 plate says 44-GS. 1601 what year would that make it? Also I can barely keep it running without full choke, any thoughts?

1947 massey 44. u need a carb disassembly and soak it in gunk overnight.

GS= Gas Standard tread, maybe an F in there too? Would mean foot clutch.

Carb most likely need a bit of TLC like a rebuild

Just had the same issues on a 44. There is five (5) jets in those carbs, this one had most plugged with lead from previous years. I used small drill bits to clean each one of them. You have to be carefull doing that though, I drilled by hand and then increase drill size and kept repeating the process for each. If you break a bit, it's game over! Some of the harder ones I used "Bore Scrubber" for cleaning guns, seemed to soften it up a little.
