massey harris puller

I've got a Massey Harris 44 and im looking to get 100hp or more out of it. I've heard that you can put JD 4020 pistons in it and farmall m rods? The rods are about 1/2inch longer than the mh rods. Are the rod journals the same size? Would the pistons have to be decked at all? What kind of headwork can I do? How much can the head be decked? What kind of carb should it have? I'm just looking for any info or advice on how to get the most HP out of it.

Your not gonna get 100 without some stroke. If you are serious, extreme tractor parts has 4 1/2" pistons and sleeves with a big dome for a 44.

Why would you need a 100hp out of it. The massey 44 pulls very good with the way it is. It is very good in 45 & 55 pound class stock. Are you pulling stock or open.

I realize I will probably need to get more stroke out of it. Yes its a stock class but I pulled with it for the first time last weekend and that's when I found out no one is actually stock in the stock class by me. Everyone had 80-100hp that I talked to. I have no problem sticking 4-5k into it if that means I'll get the HP I'm looking for

for 100 hp you will want murphys rockers 4.5 bore by 6.5 stroke and a big carb. [youll want pistons with a big dome othewise you wont have enough compression.]

use the stock cam. a reegrind will do more harm than good. dont ask me how i know.

this combo will probably cost around 5k if you do some of the work yourself. if properly tuned this should yield 100-110 hp

I have a 44 with 363 cubes i can pull second gear all the way up to 7k without pullin engine down i bought tractor already fixed but it pulls very strong i been real pleased with it

Yea from what i was told its 4.3 x6.25 flowed and balanced head has a 444 cam thats been ground 55 massey rods Lp manifold and large bendix carb it runs 13to1 compression and runs excellent i always wanted to build a massey puller but found it cheaper to buy one ready to go

You could also search my name in this forum and find many discussions on engines such as this.

I will tell you that I have built many 4.5" X 6" H260 engine that are not crazy compression and do not need high ratio rockers or racing fuel to achieve 100HP at stock +10% RPM. The cylinder head and the camshaft are the "tricks" to getting good power out of these engines of this size and crazy compression can seriously affect reliability. Not to mention that crazy compression will force you to run $12.00/ gallon fuel.

Do as much research on your own as you can and take advice from this forum with caution...
